Category share tracker · Recipe 1.1

See who is winning a category, and how share is moving.

Who leads a category, how concentrated it is, and how that has moved. Every brand ranked by GMV month over month, with share movement and realised price per unit indexed against the category average.

The prompt

Give it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor along with your key. It reads the docs, follows the recipe, and asks you before spending anything.

Rules: always call the catalogue first to see what exists; always run a dry-run estimate and show me the row count before spending anything; ask me before spending any credits.

What I want: rank every brand in Indonesian sunscreen by GMV for the last six months, show me how share moved, and flag anyone who gained or lost more than a third.

What it tracks

01

Monthly GMV and units per brand, at the category grain you ask for

02

Market share per brand, and how it moved across the window

03

Realised price per unit — GMV divided by units — indexed against the category average at 100

04

Row counts per month, so a collection artefact is visible rather than read as a market move

How it works

  1. 1
Call GET /v1/exports/catalog?country=ID and confirm the category and market exist, and for which months.
  2. 2
POST /v1/exports with "estimate": true to see exactly how many rows the scope returns. The estimate charges nothing.
  3. 3
Submit the same body without "estimate", then poll the job until the files are ready.
  4. 4
Download the signed links, one file per category and month, and compute share and the price index.

What a real response looks like

Real export rows · ID · Shopee · Facial Serum · 2 of the top rows, selected columns

Tips from our own runs

Always pass a category_3. Leave it out and you'll export every category in the market, which is almost never what you meant.

Copy category names straight from the catalogue response. It's a quick step, and it stops a small typo from turning into an error.

If one month's row count looks way off next to its neighbours, that's usually a collection hiccup rather than a real market move. Flag it and move on.
